Dead Guy Quote (7)
"We’re all scared. You hid in that ditch because you think there’s still hope. But Blithe, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function. Without mercy. Without compassion. Without remorse. All war depends upon it." – CPT Ronald Spiers

We must live but we must also always fear when "The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live." Martin Luther King, Strength to Love (1963) What impossible demands we place upon you good men. I wish you grace as you and your men negotiate such demands.
Blithe did not die like the producers/ writers had it in the movie. He recovered, fought in Korea, and retired in the '60s as a MSG
I always figured my life was forfeit when I enlisted as an 11B a lot of years ago. It made me see that every day is a gift and that you can't go through life scared. It makes soldiering a lot easier.
Good quote. Sourcing would be nice, if you have it.
